Hod

Hod is the eighth Sefirah.  It symbolizes the characteristic of humility and can be said to help focus the previous attribute, Netzach.  As Netzach represents the right leg, Hod inhabits the left (restrictive) axis and symbolizes the left leg.  Netzach and Hod often function in a manner similar to the right and left legs of man.  Hod derives from the Hebrew root hoda’ah, which signifies discretion or modesty.  It is the process of recognizing that the Creator has the power to bless you (with the strenghths he gives you intrinsically) in order to elevate you spiritually and make you aware of His Presence in all things.  The humility that concedes to the highest power of the Divine is impressive only in the discovery of its smallness in comparison to the power of the Ineffable.  This type of concession or submission to the Divine proffers a type of majestic splendor, and another meaning of Hod is that of splendor.

Hod is associated with the fifth day of creation during which time, birds, fish and other animals of the seas were created.
